Many users ask if QuickBooks online and QuickBooks desktop automatically backup data. Unfortunately no, QB does not provide any automatic recovery plan. However, there are some ways to backup QuickBooks online and QB desktop as well. In this post, we are going to discuss it.

Backup QuickBooks Online

As mentioned above, QuickBooks Online does not provide any feature of backing up data in QuickBooks. But data backup and recovery is an important thing for any business. To backup data in QuickBooks, you will need to take help from a third-party solution like QuickBooks Online Advanced. QuickBooks Online Advanced supports any disaster recovery and ensures that all your data is safe. Saving a backup of your company data gives you the privilege to change the needed data like vendors, customers, and other settings. There are many ways to restore backup in QuickBooks.

Step 1: Turn On the Online Back-up & Restore app

QuickBooks will automatically backup your data if you keep the online back-up & restore app on. It saves any modifications made to your company data. And you can restore a backup at any time. Follow the steps below to complete this process-

  • Open Settings.
  • Click on the Back up company option.

Step 2: Try Creating a One-time Backup Manually

Incase you want to save a project manually, you can do so by following the below steps-

  • Open Settings> select Backup company.
  • Choose Add Company.
  • From the dropdown menu, select Search for a company. Now choose the company you wish to backup.
  • Tap on Next> then Connect option.
  • Choose the Action dropdown menu> now choose Run Full Backup.

Step 3: Schedule Backup to Your Dropbox or Google Drive

While linking your account, you can schedule your backup to Dropbox or Google Drive by following these steps-

Connect Dropbox or Drive Account-

  • Open Setting>then Back up company.
  • Click on Local Backup Menu.
  • Click on the Link a Service.
  • Now choose Dropbox or Drive for saving backup, according to your preference.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions that QuickBooks is giving.

Set up Backup Frequency

  • Select New Local Backup Schedule from the Local Backup menu.
  • Verify if you are in the right company.
  • Enter the Time & Date on when to run the first scheduled backup.
  • Now set the backup frequency.
  • Choose Create Local Backup Schedule.

How To Restore Your Data From a Backup?

You can restore the backup from any specific time. Follow the given steps to do so-

  • Navigate to Settings.
  • Choose the option Backup company.
  • Choose the New Restore option from the Restore menu.
  • Now choose the company you want to restore data from the Company dropdown menu.
  • Ensure to choose Time & Date in the Restore dropdown menu.
  • After checking if everything is correct, Create Restore.
  • Input your company’s name and choose Restore.
